Isn't it because of the shade falling from the cylinder that light gray B square looks darker and A being a dark gray looks lighter because it is under direct light? Therefore, they come to be closer to being of the same gray color. |

the squares are teh same color not becasue the shadow of the green cone makes the light gray duller but becasue of the way contrast works on our eyes when we draw shadows. the shadow of the cone around square b makes it look darker in contrast to square a, but the same pigment is used for both colors. |

by the way, the gray lines do not get darker or lighter, try "paint" on them as well. it just appears that way, that's why it's an optical illusion. |

if u notice the bottom, u can see the board thru the grey line. on the top u cant. and if u hold something on bothe sides of one of the grey lines, u can see that it gets darker as it goes up. i should know. im a computer geek with eyes that can tell the slightest diff. in things like this. so hows that for backed up info?! |
