I think it was alright, his tone sucked ass, and he is NOT by any means a virtuoso or an amazing player. I give him credit for the coolness of it but his tone sucked really badly and he messed it up quite a few times. |

the coins part was using harmonics. its actually easier to do than the actual song if you can get the hang of it. its just a matter of being able to do "alternate picing". just two strings next to each other and "ba-ding" you got yourself a coin effect. on the fifth fret of sting B then hi-E. its fun to do and blows people minds. |

There is actually a flaw in the song - other than the few mistakes. The one flaw is that it actually needs to be even faster. I times the music on my Gameboy Advance for the Super Mario Bros. game, and the real music passes the gitaur music. I still give it a 10/10 by a long shot, but it could be better. |

I agree, the tone was spot on for nintendo standards. The playing was a bit loose though. theres about 8 wrong notes and he lost his place twice. Its not great but a good effort. it sounds so much better if the guitar plays the root notes and a keyboard player harmonises it like we do. good try though |

I can't find my post but, amazed i never said it was faked, i said the original, on the game, was made in midi and for a human to play it like he did is great, im sure when he is not being filmed he does it perfect the camera always adds pressure, as for you people using tabs, be careful, as tab programmes can get things wrong, and the guitar is tuned to standard E as would a mdi key board

aright everybody i worked out how t do the pipe effect its easy ok first you need an amp and a pick then in standard tuning you dampen all the strings with your left hand and turn your pick around so yo use the back of it then strum upwards lightly but it will not be loud |

1. No, the theme is NOT that hard.
2. People being perfect has nothing to do with a perfect performance. How many professional musicians do you think mess up on stage? Not many. Four times in a thirty second clip is too much.
Your last sentence also invalidates your entire post, it's contradictory. You say practice makes perfect, but then you say the reason he messes up is because he's not perfect. Sounds like a lack of practice to me...

yeah that was realli good i was reading some of the first comments some guy said he messed up 10 times.. i was watching and its basically flaweless the only thing i saw that he did wrong was the flag since the pauses from the main riff was the tunnel pause.. its how it sounds in game.. i can play the main theme underground theme and castle theme with the coin sound effects and tunnel and jump sound effect i would realli like to knoe the tricky ones though.. so yeah a tab would be nice =] |

I'm amazed at the people on here claiming to be guitarists who claim this is impossible. Try listening to, for example, Steve Vai sometime. Most people's idea of electric guitar is about 30 years out of date - seriously, get with the times. People have been doing crazy sounds on guitar (with their fingers) since the 70s. Van Halen, Vai, Satriani, try Malmsteen for those sweep picked arpeggios. And some people need to learn about harmonics. It's not rocket science! |

The coin sound is just 5th string harmonics. You could also use an artificial harmonic by putting your index finger on the 5th fret of the 3rd and 4th strings and using your pinky to lightly touch on the 9th fret and then pick it. I prefer that method, but either way it sounds the same. |
